Elias Ainsworth

Elias Ainsworth is a nonhuman mage and one of the central characters of The Ancient Magus' Bride. He purchases Chise Hatori at auction, intending to make her his apprentice and eventual bride in The Ancient Magus Bride.

Intelligent but emotionally inexperienced, Elias understands magic more easily than human attachment. His possessiveness and jealousy come from fear of losing Chise and an inability to name his own feelings.

Ancient magic, jealousy, and learning from Chise

Elias commands powerful ancient magic, transforms his body, communicates with fae, and carries the skull-like head of a creature whose true species remains uncertain. His relationship with Chise gradually shifts from ownership toward mutual learning, forcing both characters to establish boundaries and a more equal bond.
