Ginko

Ginko is the wandering Mushi Master and protagonist of Mushishi. He travels through rural communities investigating Mushi, primitive life forms that cause strange natural and supernatural phenomena.

Ginko's work as a Mushi Master

Calm, observant, and compassionate without being sentimental, Ginko seeks balance rather than simply destroying Mushi. His own exposure to the Tokoyami erased much of his childhood and left him unable to remain in one place.

Observation, treatment, and the cost of constant travel

Ginko uses medicine, field knowledge, smoke, and specialized tools to diagnose Mushi-related conditions. Relationships are often temporary because his presence attracts Mushi, while recurring connections with Adashino and Tanyuu provide rare continuity in his solitary life.
