Monika

Monika is the president of the Literature Club and the central self-aware character in Doki Doki Literature Club! She discovers that she exists inside a game and begins altering files and character behavior to create a route in which the player can choose her.

Monika beyond the structure of the dating game

Intelligent, articulate, and increasingly desperate, Monika views the other girls as scripted obstacles. Her desire for genuine connection leads her to manipulate suffering, but she later recognizes the harm she caused.

File manipulation, self-awareness, and the desire to reach the player

Monika can modify dialogue, delete characters, change game states, and address the player directly. Her final act of restoring the game after being deleted shows remorse while confirming that awareness itself is a source of isolation.
